Apollo Victoria Theatre

London Westend Apollo Victoria Theatre is positioned at 17 Wilton Road, London, United Kingdom, SW1V 1LG. The Apollo Victoria Theatre is one of the most popular London West End theatres renowned for hosting long-running musicals such as Starlight Express. Wicked The Musical is also running at the theatre since 2006.

The theatre is popularly stated as Apollo Victoria with an astounding occupancy of 2,300 people and positioned close to Victoria Station. Theatre has a wonderful Art Deco and has a heritage which dates back to 1929. Under the supervision of Provincial Cinematograph Theatres (PCT), theatre made its debut as a state-of-the-art cinema, and was known as the New Victoria Cinema. The venue was known as an entertainment venue, where one can watch film, big band and variety performances. The venue also hosted some of the initial broadcasts of a fledging BBC.

The building underwent huge refurbishment in the year 1975 and started hosting musical content. There was a concert which celebrated the new opening of the theatre featuring Dame Shirley Bassey as the headline act. The era of late 1970’s and 80’s witnessed some of the finest and well-loved musicals, including Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music and Camelot at the Apollo Victoria Theatre! With the arrival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express, the interior of the auditorium undergone redesigning. There were race tracks that are running through the audience. A split-level roller-skating rink was also incorporated. For mind blowing 18 years, Starlight Express played at the theatre and closed in 2002.
