The Play That Goes Wrong


If you enjoy farcical comic shows thensimply head towards The Duchess Theatre! The popular theatre is currentlyhosting the rib tickling funny comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong! Thephenomenally successful show runs for 2 hours and five minutes and is acomplete chaotic comedy. The hugely loved disaster-riddled show featuringriotous escapades won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in the year 2015.The show is running with packed houses at the London West End all across thecountry.

The Play That Goes Wrong is an enjoyableroller coaster ride that depicts the pranks of Cornley Polytechnic DramaSociety. The drama company are working hard for onstage production of a 1920smurder mystery. However, as the name suggests that the production is not aneasy task and everything is going wrong. The show features some brilliant funnyscenes like crumpling sets, forgotten lines, broken fourth walls,unavailability of props and unlucky injuries aplenty.

Although, there are some many problems andsetbacks, still the actors are fighting hard to reach the final curtain. Thefarcical comic show has some wonderful events that are packed with Keaton-esqueslapstick, finely-tuned fast along with memoable physical comedy. The brilliantrags-to-riches saga made its debut at a London fringe venue, the Old Red LionTheatre. There were only four paying customers at the first performance and waslater transferred to Trafalgar Studios and then on to the Duchess Theatre.

Since then the show is running withhouseful shows at the packed houses. In early 2017, The Play That GoesWrong  was transferred to Broadway and isplaying in twelve countries. The show has foreign language productions in France,Israel and Italy. The show also went on earning the prestigious Tony Award in2017 for Best Scenic Design of a Play.

Mischief Theatre company members HenryLewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields penned the show. They are also knownfor some remarkable works such as the Olivier Award-nominated comedies PeterPan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery.

 Thehilarious, slapstick comedy has won several prestigious awards and has been a huge hit amongst audience aswell as critics. Catch the troubles of the ill-fated Cornley Polytechnic DramaSociety and their ambitious production of a 1920’s murder mystery.

Under the superb direction of Mark Bell andsterling performances by  Lindsey Scottas Annie, Daniel Poyser as Trevor, Jack Baldwin as Chris, Fred Gray asJonathan, Sydney K. Smith as Dennis, Leonard Cook as Robert, Katy Daghorn asSandra and George Haynes as Max, as well as understudies Tom Babbage, JamieBirkett, Sean Carey and Beth Lilly, the show is a completely enjoyableexperience.

The Play thatGoes Wrong is the winner of Best New Comedy at the 2014 WhatsOnStage Awards andthe Olivier Award for Best New Comedy at the 2015 ceremony, The Play That GoesWrong won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Set Design.
