Fortune Theatre

The Fortune Theatre is located at Russell Street, London, United Kingdom is stated as ‘This most intimate of theatres’. The famous theatre made its grand debut way back on Saturday 8 November 1924. The theatre is constructed on the site of the old Albion Tavern. After the World I, this was the first London theatre that has been constructed.

During the World War II, the venue was used by ENSA, the concert party corp of the Forces. Fortune theatre has witnessed performance of some of the most talented celebrated actors and actresses. Some of the most stunning actors delivered great performances are Dame Judi Dench, Dirk Bogarde and Maureen Lipman. The Fortune theatre also hosted the magnificent revue from Cambridge, Beyond The Fringe featuring the original stars Alan Bennett, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Jonathan Miller.

The Fortune Theatre is currently running the classic haunted saga, The Woman in Black, which is one of the most popular West End legend. The bone chilling and thrilling experience of this enigmatic play has been experienced at The Fortune theatre since 1989. In July 2001, 5000 performances were celebrated amidst huge gala organised in the Stalls Bar and the auditorium!

The famous London Westend Fortune Theatre is positioned in the heart of London’s Theatreland, which is located at a nearby distance to Covent Garden and the Aldwych. The venue is packed with number of other theatres which are located at a nearby distance from the theatre. The area is immensely popular amongst theatre lovers and visitors as the venue is packed with swish bars, cheap and friendly restaurants. The venue also comprises of huge range of high street and designer shops. If you are planning to visit the Covent Garden then it is located at a short walk from the theatre.  Some other popular attractions near the theatre are the Royal Opera House and the London Transport Museum.

For those who are planning to visit the theatre, no need to worry! Fortune theatre is located at an accessible location. You can visit the theatre via tubes as there are several stations located within walking distance of the Fortune Theatre, but the nearest is Covent Garden on the Piccadilly line. For those who don’t like crowded areas at peak hours, must go for Holborn instead on the Central or Piccadilly lines, which is located at a 10 minute walk from the theatre. You can also visit the theatre via bus numbers 24, 29 and 176 all stop close to the theatre. You can also hire a taxi or drive your own car, as the nearest NCP car park is on Drury Lane.
