Thestory commences in the year 1983, when celebration of the 25th anniversarycelebration of Motown is going on and Berry Gordy is looking back on hiscareer.
In April 2013,the popular musical made its world premiere at New York’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatrefollowed by a US national tour. The show earned huge critical acclamation inChicago in spring 2014. Under the superb direction of Charles Randolph-Wrightwith a book by Gordy, the popular West End production is running with packedhouses at the magnificent Shaftesbury Theatre.
Young Berry ishugely inspired by his childhood hero, black American boxer Joe Louis and wantto make everyone happy and proud. He established a music making factory afterborrowing an $800 loan from his family. During this era, some of the topmostartists made debut such as Diana Ross and the Supremes, Michael Jackson and theJackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, TheTemptations and more.
Motown TheMusical is an adventurous and sensational story of a man who amidst allchallenges and odds built a beautiful sound of a generation. The role of Berry Gordy and Diana Ross isportrayed by Jay Perry and Natalie Kassanga, whereas David Albury as SmokeyRobinson, with Carl Spencer as Marvin Gaye.
